Niramaya is designed for women diagnosed with cancer, particularly those undergoing treatment or recovery, and doctors/care teams who support them. The primary focus is on patients who need emotional reassurance, structured guidance, and consistent follow-ups, rather than just medical data.
Scope of Work

Rip The Brief
The challenge is to design a patient-centric, digital solution that not only educates and empowers women to detect cancer early but also provides personalized reminders, emotional support, and accessible resources, all in a way that fits seamlessly into their daily lives.
Women in India face delayed detection and poor awareness of cancer, leading to higher mortality rates. Current solutions lack patient-friendly self-check tools, emotional support systems, and doctor–patient integration.

Background
In India, Cancer among women is an escalating health challenge, with breast, cervical, Uterine, lung and ovarian cancers alone accounting for nearly 50% of all female cancer cases. India saw an estimated 749,251 new cases of cancer in females with a crude incidence rate of 105.4 per 100,000 due to late detection and low awareness.
Scope
The core intent of this project is to provide support in getting the correct knowledge that is needed within dealing with major concerns and this presentation visualizes key data on cancer prevalence, awareness gaps, and screening behaviors among Indian women to guide education, intervention and app development for early detection and prevention.

Information Architecture
Enhance your project showcases with tailored descriptions that provide context and highlight key aspects of your process. These optional text blocks let you emphasize specific features, explain challenges you overcame, or detail the results achieved for the client.

Defining Users
The mapping was done based on the prime audience segmentation. Where the stages defined wer e patient centric, further identifying the doctors' role and deconstructing their pain points in those stages.

Introduction of the Design System
It is a scalable design system that saves time, reduces technical debt over time. It solves the problem of inconsistent components and user experience.
The design system is never final. It evolves as we go along.

To identify a patient-centric solution, I firstly went about understanding the four identified stages in an individuals journey when dealing with Cancer.

Final Concept
It will personalized awareness journeys based on a woman’s age, location. The app delivers bite-sized, culturally relevant information in local languages via video, voice, and visuals to increase awareness and encourage screening.

Learnings
What We Have Learned
Design with empathy, not just information
Women dealing with cancer need reassurance, guidance, and emotional support. Simple language, supportive content, and a non-judgmental experience helped make the app more approachable.
Different users need different journeys
Patients, caregivers, and doctors have different goals and expectations. Creating dedicated flows for each user type improved usability and reduced confusion.
Awareness is effective only when it leads to action
Educational content alone is not enough. Features like self-assessment, reminders, symptom tracking, and doctor connectivity helped users take the next step toward early detection.
Future
Continue improving through user feedback
Regularly test the app with women, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to identify usability gaps and improve the experience based on real needs and behaviours.
Measure and optimize after launch
Track onboarding completion, symptom checker usage, screening reminders, and engagement with awareness content to understand what works best and where improvements are needed.
Build a more supportive health companion
Expand personalised health guidance, multilingual content, doctor connectivity, and preventive care features while keeping the experience simple, trustworthy, and accessible.
Niramaya was one of the most meaningful projects I worked on because it challenged me to design for awareness, empathy, and real healthcare needs. It helped me understand how thoughtful design can support women through sensitive health journeys and encourage early detection. A big thanks to the product, research, design, and development teams who helped bring this vision to life.
